Diesel MPG Savings Calculator
Small MPG improvements add up over thousands of miles. Here's how to calculate what a change in fuel economy or fuel price is worth to you.
How to calculate MPG savings
Weekly savings = (miles ÷ current MPG − miles ÷ new MPG) × price per gallon. Multiply by the weeks you work for annual savings, and divide the annual figure by 12 for monthly.
Lowering price per gallon
Fuel card discounts and route planning change the price side of the equation. Savings = gallons used × the price difference.
Be realistic
Savings only happen if you actually achieve the new MPG or price. Treat these as what-if calculations, not guarantees.
Worked example: 3,000 mi/week at $3.80, 50 weeks
| 6.0 MPG | $1,900.00/wk |
| 6.5 MPG | $1,753.85/wk |
| 7.0 MPG | $1,628.57/wk |
| 7.5 MPG | $1,520.00/wk |
| 6.5 → 7.0 MPG savings | $125.27/wk · $6,264/yr |
